We are a 100% volunteer-run organization that is proud to empower our interns to take ownership of aspects of our program, not only for our organizational development but their own as well.  Interns are committed to monthly hands-on involvement at our program, as well as special projects for our organizational development.


Jenna Khoury


Jenna Khoury is Oakland Youth Aspire's curriculum intern. She is a Senior at St. Mary's College of California and will be continuing her education in the Ph.D. program at Palo Alto University in the Fall. Her passion is working with children and loves being able to interact with them as much as she can. In the past she has worked in clinical and research settings where working with children was always part of the job. She hopes to be able to contribute as much as she can to OYA in the few months that she will be with them.



Hollie Joyce


Hollie Joyce is Oakland Youth Aspire's curriculum intern. She is a senior at Saint Mary's College of California studying psychology. After graduation in May she is attending law school. Hollie enjoys volunteering and helping those in need, especially children. She believes that it is crucial to provide kids with the care and support that they need to develop to their fullest potential.

Kyle Elliott 
Grant Writing & Development Intern
 Kyle Elliott worked with Oakland Youth Aspire in 2013-14 on developing our logic models and curriculum for our food distribution, youth cooking, and social emotional learning programs. He also collaborated on researching and identifying grant opportunities.




Connie Tran 
Data & Operations Intern
Connie Tran was OYA’s Data and Operations intern in 2013-2014. She was responsible for assuring data quality through data entry and general programmatic support and maintenance. Connie originally started interning for OYA in January 2014 as the Food Justice intern. Connie currently serves as OYA's Health and Wellness Director.




Caitlin Dong

Projects Coordinator Intern
Caitlin is our Projects Coordinator intern. Through this internship, she works with and supports board members on various projects. Caitlin began serving with Oakland Youth Aspire in the fall of 2012 as an extension of her passion for working with and mentoring youth. Caitlin was also an active volunteer leader at the YWCA Berkeley/Oakland in their techGYRLS mentoring program. She managed a weekly program at Sankofa Elementary School in Oakland that empowers young girls to explore opportunities in the fields of science and technology. Furthermore, she co-founded and was the co-president of a student communications club at UC Berkeley that aims to bridge the gap between undergraduate students and the professional working world and to foster a community for students to collaborate. Caitlin is currently a fourth year student at the University of California, Berkeley, pursuing a B.A. in Media Studies and a minor in Education.
